Whether it was Steenkamp or someone else in the bathroom the intention was to kill or seriously harm someone. That is clearly murder.
As for his feelings of contrition and sorrow he comes across as someone who hugely regrets the effect this is all having on him. To me everything else is window dressing for effect.

Sniper - the feeling of many South Africans is quite important here. Some of them are LUDICROUSLY paranoid about safety in their homes.
The programme that was on a couple of weeks ago was quite good in that it balanced out a lot of the stuff that gets reported.
His story is quite believable from many perspectives (not saying it's true), and I really can't see how it can ever be proven that he set out to intentionally kill HER. Sure, he fired the gun intending to kill SOMEONE, but how can we say for sure it was her?

This is a joke.
Watching that programme on itv a few weeks back, I don't doubt for a second that he completely regrets his actions and I know there's no way at all that I can personally understand how life works in South Africa with the extreme violence etc, nor how your feelings of vulnerability are intensified by having no legs and being a rich famous personality who would be deemed a relatively easy target but the fact remains he intended to kill whoever was behind that door with no proof that there was anyone other than reeva in the apartment.
I also think the prosecution fucked up massively originally by trying to prove hinge they knew werent true (like stati g he was wearing his blades when he shot the weapon despite ballistics categorically proving otherwise). If they'd just stuck to the facts that was enough anyway but being proved wrong on other factors did undermine then somewhat

It's an absolute disgrace that this vile cunt has only got six years.
I feel for her parents ,all through what must have been an absolute nightmare for them they have shown what decent people they are.
The very least they deserve is justice and they are not getting it.
I hope they can appeal and get a sentence of at least 15 years.

She said there were “substantial and compelling reasons” to deviate from the 15-year minimum sentence for murder, citing as one factor the continuing misperception that Pistorius had intended to kill his girlfriend." (Guardian).
So, in one fell swoop this perverse judge effectively reduces the charge back to manslaughter AND completley ignore the minimum sentence requirement? Surely, if the minimum penalty is 15 years that is the starting point - i.e. never less? Extraordinary.
